19th Century Merchant Sail and Steam Ship Resources

Nineteenth century maritime history saw major advances in technology and practice such as the creation of the clipper ship, the fall of sail, and the rise of steel and steam. The sources in this Libguide focus on the ships used by merchant fleets during this time such as clippers, packets, freighters, steamboats and many others as well as the means in which they were created, where they operated, and the lives of the sailors who sailed them.
