Library Policies

We welcome and encourage Maritime Alumni to utilize their borrowing privileges at the beautiful Stephen B. Luce Library. Library privileges extended to Alumni are subject to the rules and the policies of the Stephen B. Luce Library. Alumni must be members and in good standing with the SUNY Maritime College Alumni Association.

You can apply for an alumni library card by filling out this application. Alumni library cards expire annually and can be renewed as part of their annual college Alumni Association renewal. 

Alumni may borrow up to 5 books at a time for five weeks and renew materials once.

You will receive a notification when items are overdue. After 90 days, you will receive a bill to replace the item or a flat fee of $50. Your library privileges will be suspended until the item is returned, replaced, or paid for.

Alumni can request that a book be paged from the Stephen B. Luce library circulating collection by locating the book in our online catalog and clicking on “Request for pickup.” Once the item requested has been processed, Alumni will be notified via email. The item will then be held for 24 hours before returning to the stacks. If a student requests the same book that is being held for an alum, the student’s request supersedes the alum, and the book is released to borrow.

Due to license restrictions, we cannot offer the Friends of the Luce Library remote access to our online resources, such as databases. However, you can access those resources at the library in person.

Friends of the Luce Library can utilize the Stephen B. Luce Library’s resources and request help with research. For general questions, alumni can access the “Have a Question?” feature on the Stephen B. Luce website. For more extensive research questions, alumni can make an appointment with a librarian at library@sunymaritime.edu.
